While Everyone Wonders Who Will #TakeAKnee on Sunday, Some Remember One Hero Who Never Would

On Saturday, as insults and threats flew between President Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, a war of a slightly less dire nature was already underway.

It began when President Trump posed a hypothetical question to an Alabama crowd on Friday night:

“We’re proud of our country. We respect our flag. Wouldn’t you love to see one of our NFL owners when someone disrespects our flag to say, ‘Get that son of a b***h off the field right now … he’s fired!’”

Things escalated when the statements began to pour in from other NFL players, NBA playersNFL officials, and even Colin Kaepernick’s mother, but President Trump doubled down:

Then rumors began to fly regarding major planned protests for Sunday afternoon:

And some couldn’t help but remember one hero, Pat Tillman, who gave up NFL glory to put on a uniform. He laid down his life on April 22, 2004, in Afghanistan, in part to ensure that these players would retain the right to take a knee:
